GIANT INTERACTIVE INTRODUCES “STREAMING PLUS,” A GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION SERVICE EXCLUSIVELY FOR FILMS HEADING TO STREAMING PLATFORMS

LAUNCHING WITH DRAKE DOREMUS FILM “NEWNESS” NOVEMBER 2017

New York, NY – September 8, 2017 – Digital distributor Giant Interactive is excited to announce “Streaming Plus,” a new worldwide distribution service that provides additional digital distribution for the increasing number of filmmakers who are selling their films directly to streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Video Direct’s Film Festival Stars.

Giant Interactive will complement any SVOD streaming deal by securing placement on leading digital distribution platforms, including iTunes and Google Play, to enhance filmmakers’ revenue opportunities by making their film available to millions of additional viewers to rent or to buy.

Streaming Plus will launch with the romantic drama NEWNESS, directed by Drake Doremus (LIKE CRAZY, EQUALS), Executive Produced by Ridley Scott, and starring Nicholas Hoult and Laia Costa. Giant Interactive will release the film in the US & Canada on November 3rd as an iTunes Movies Exclusive. This will be followed by distribution across a number of other digital transactional (TVOD / EST) platforms, ahead of the SVOD run on Netflix, which was secured by the filmmakers following the film’s world premiere at Sundance 2017.

The trend of films selling directly to streaming services has been a shot in the arm for the independent film business, but often filmmakers need help identifying and exploiting all other distribution opportunities that are still on the table,” said Nick Savva, Giant Interactive’s Director of Content Distribution. “At Giant Interactive, we understand that filmmakers want more options when it comes to distribution. With Streaming Plus, we’re offering a unique solution to filmmakers that is more profitable, more cost-effective, and easier than doing it on your own.”

Navigating the evolving digital distribution landscape can be complex,” says Yale Chasin of UTA’s Independent Film Group, who represents the NEWNESS filmmakers. “Giant Interactive’s Streaming Plus deal is a game-changer for independent releases in the age of streaming platforms, like Netflix and Amazon, allowing filmmakers and financiers to create real awareness for their films, and attract an audience beyond the streaming subscriber base.”

I’m excited to have partnered with Giant Interactive on our digital distribution,” said Drake Doremus, director of NEWNESS. “Their strategic approach to distribution, and care and attention to independent releases, is unique.”

Streaming Plus is open to any feature-length film or documentary following completion of an SVOD (subscription streaming) deal. Filmmakers receive 2-year, non-exclusive distribution in the US or worldwide. Giant Interactive will be attending TIFF 2017 to add films to the Streaming Plus program.
